Hi Team;
Need your feedback here. In attempts to make the game a) more accessible to new players and b) quicker to play in a crunch (i.e. short cab ride) we’re thinking about a simplified beginner mode. It would work like this:
1. Game flow would remain the same until the end of the Development round (i.e. pre-auction)
2. Prior to each auction, the player would then see a Production Summary screen (below)
3. Based on the summary shown, the player would then choose to either Buy/Sell/Hold that resource
4. The auction would be simulated and the results displayed shortly thereafter
Shoot us your thoughts. We like the idea. Who played on beginner anyway? 🙂
Matt
Not sure what you mean by “simulated” auction, but if it means a phase that is not actually an ongoing auction, I’d be in favor of it for one very important reason.
If it works, that would mean the possibility of ASYNC. A turn based M.U.L.E. would be fantastic.
FYI, I really do *not* see this game being played on a “short cab ride.” No way.
I’m ready to betatest!
Asyn is phase 2. 🙂
The only problem I saw with “Beginner Mode” was that it was missing some elements from “Tournament Mode” such as the land auctions. As well as the raids on the supply shops which were critical to strategy in multi-player.
Putting in at least one land auction to prepare players for that option in beginner would be nice.
But really, keeping it as close to the original is best IMHO. For Dan!
PS – Please don’t mess it up like #SimShitty but I know the franchise is in good hands with you.
Don’t worry about trying to make this into Angry Birds. Just as long as the game can be paused, it should rocket past such simple constructions.
Doesn’t matter to me, my kids won’t ever play on beginner. We just need the GAME! 🙂
Not so much. How much time would that actually save anyway? Not enough inimagine to take away from the aesthetics of the gameplay.
This sounds like a great way for beginners to get into the game and will also allow for some quick play. As long as this is in addition to the regular game play, I am all for it.
Sounds great!
Thanks for bringing this back; I am really looking forward to this title. Brings back memories of playing this on my Commodore 64 as a kid. I loved this game.
Thanks for the comments, all!
I wouldn’t be opposed to this. It might appeal to some to get them into the game if they have never played.
But I do echo one above comment; Make sure the “Save” option works well so if I put it down for a day I can resume where I left off!
Beta! Beta! Beta! (I want play it til my hands break!)
I have no problem with it as long as I can still play the real game…
Hi !
I agree to the others. As long there is a pause/save option
there is no need for some kind of simplified beginner mode.
Never player this mode in the original eihter 😉
Can’t wait to see the game!
Make it as an optional beginner mode (or demo mode) for those who are new but once you play the full version nobody will play this mode. Keep it simple and focus on the full version for maximum impact. Thanks for doing this guys! I just discovered you and will now follow with great anticipation. -John
I’m with those who say not to bother with this, just make sure the game can be paused and restarted later where one left off. Can’t wait to play me some M.U.L.E. on my iPad!!!
